I have found it very hard to post this but Richard has encouraged me to post .

awfully depressing time with physio today.

felt so positive that she would help me but she cant. basically I'm totally unstable! she had a good look at the joints and the prbs with the back.

the muscles just dont hold properly. all the supporting joints are unstable and really it is dangerous for me to stand/ walk. She got me to stand and she has never seen anyone quite as bad at this age and she gasped when I struggled to remain standing without support and wobbled like a weeble.

I then leaked some tears. She proceeded to tell me to try counselling and accept the wheelchair.

she is sending me to hydro but I dont see the point frankly.

I feel so miserable tonight. I want to lock myself away.

No one need respond. Sometimes there are no words.

Oh Jenni ... I have just emailed you (not that it will make one iota of difference to this news!) Sorry to hear about today's issues, your good news must be just around the corner, surely.

My initial thoughts are 1) no-one is a hopeless case (as she suggests, wheelchair indeed) 2) try a different physio.
I wouldn't accept that outcome Jenni especially as you felt so positive. Please don't give up. Was it an NHS appointment? Hydro may be useful as a starting point as it will allow relative ease of movement and encourage supported muscle usage. Worth a try at least.
Thinking of you and sending a hug your way,

Jenni I leak all the time... I agree with lynn - 2nd opinion different OT someone supportive to help you not write you off with an "easy solution". You have been through a lot so perhaps havent been using those muscles much. Sending you lots of hugs

Sending you huge

That must have been so hard to hear, especially from someone such as a physio but I do think she was naughty for telling you to get some counselling and embrace the wheelchair

I agree with others in that I think you should get a 2nd opinion. The fact that you stood up was a start, ok so you struggled but you have been so unwell lately and not been able to do much thats its no surprise that you found it hard.

Like with anything, its going to take time and small steps but I think where theres a will, there's a way and you certainly have a lot of will!

Hydro would definitely be a good starting point, along with non-weight bearing exercises. The muscles need to be coaxed back into action and strengthened. This is going to take time and for that you need a patient, supportive physio.. The one you saw certainly doesn't seem patient.

Thinking of you
